(1) Global energy storage system market scale (By the end of year 2017)

By the end of 2017, according to the Zhongguancun energy storage industry technology Alliance (CNESA) project database, the total installed capacity of the global energy storage project was 175.4GW. Compared with the cumulative installed size in 2016, the annual growth rate reached 3.9%, and the growth rate was stable.

(2) Technology distribution of global electrochemical energy storage project (By the end of year 2017)

By the end of 2017, according to the distribution of electrochemical energy storage technology, the accumulative loading scale of the lithium ion battery was the largest in the global energy storage project, which was account for 76% (2213MW), and it occupies an absolute dominant position in the electrochemical energy storage market.

(3) Application field of global distribution of electrochemical energy storage projects  (By the end of year 2017)

From a global perspective, ancillary services are the first areas to achieve energy storage commercialization. By the end of 2017, the accumulative capacity of the auxiliary service field was the largest in the electrochemical energy storage projects in the world, which accounted for 34% of all the electrical energy storage projects.

(4) The golden period of the development of energy storage

It is expected that in the 2016-2020 year period, lithium ion batteries, lead-acid batteries, sodium sulfur batteries and liquid current batteries will continue to be used as the main applications, and their applications will be maximized in their respective fields. At the same time, supercritical compressed air energy storage, flywheel energy storage, super capacitor demonstration and commercial applications will be carried out at the same time. In application, with the increase of policy support, the market mechanism has gradually straightened out, business models have taken shape, and commercialized projects have begun to emerge. 

 The golden period of the development of energy storage

Lithium ion batteries and lead-acid batteries are most likely to commercialize in the field of frequency modulation ancillary services, distributed generation and micro grids. After 2020, lithium ion batteries, lead-acid batteries, sodium sulphur batteries and liquid flow batteries have been commercially applied. At the same time, a new generation of energy storage technology with better performance has been developed and gradually developed to the direction of industrialization application, with the rapid development of electric vehicles and user side storage, the market mechanism is perfect and EV light storage is used.  The management of power stations and demand side has begun to develop in a large scale. At the same time, a variety of innovative models have been developed, and the exchange and integration of power storage and other fields has begun to emerge.
